Dungeons and Dragons Battle by Erasmas Dungeons and Dragons Battle by Erasmas
While this is not art, I wanted to show how HUGE this battle was. If any of you are familiar with 3rd edition, you can see it's a large battle... but keep in mind that each of those counters represents six gibberlings. I belief that we ended up killing 400 of them in all.

However, I suppose that this COULD sort of be labelled as art, as my wife and I made the counters. They are glass beads that you can get at any craft or hobby store. I then wrote numbers (1-00) on the bottoms of them in permanent marker (red and blue). Now, if you do it this way, you have to write the numbers backwards... which takes some getting used to. LOL We then cut out and glued pieces of white felt to the bottoms. They work great!

Dungeons & Dragons and "gibberlings" are copyrighted to Wizards of the Coast.

every group i've played in that used any kind of battlemap sucked at roleplaying. if you want to play a wargame play a wargame. if you want to play a tactical skirmish try a video game. if you want to roleplay, play a roleplaying game.

Roleplaying has never been a problem with our group. I have even had a few moments at the table that made me tear up a little.

I'm sorry that you've had such a poor experience in the past and I hope that that changes. I, personally, like a mixture of those things and feel like I do a pretty decent job of incorporating all of them into the games that I run.

But, opinions are like assholes - everyone has one and they stink to anyone else but you.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you on this!
Unfortunately, I hardly ever check this site any more.

However, to answer your question... that isn't paper. It's a vinyl battle map from Chessex (I believe) and you draw on it with wet erase markers.

Holy crap man! U guys must have some hard hitters in your group. I'm an elf druid and the last time i got into a battle i ended up paralyzed about 400 feet in the air held by a plant i'd asked to hold me there above the t-rex we were fighting (yes, a t-rex) so i could shoot at it. And the freaking t-rex jumped up and bit me. Now what are the chances of that?!?!?! Anyway, i was working on a healing spell when my group just kinda left with about a hundred enemies of some sort while im just kinda like "uh... guys? Can ya'll tell me what's going on? hello??????" and then they left. So i was kinda like "what the beep guys? can't yall just wait?" and if u were wondering no they weren't being taken hostage or whatever they had talked the bad guys into working for us. or them at least. Not me. I was just hanging out suspended from a vine and paralyzed. Don't mind me! it was hilarious. I'd enjoy hearing some of you guy's d and d stories. :)

I think about 6 hours. But it was worth every minute of it. I believe several hours in, we actually re-instated an old 1st edition rule (in regards to creatures with less than 1 HD) where a character could attack a number of them equal to his level per round... in addition to the normal multiple attacks granted by leveling in 3rd edition. We literally got tired of hacking the things down.

Wow!! My group just started a campaign, with a brand-new DM, some people have never played before, and the others haven't played sine 3rd edition. As a result (and with the help of some bad rolling), some of the battles are taking a couple of hours with only 8 enemies, lol. Still getting use to the rules, and new characters :-/. Anyway, keep it up, friend!
