Dungeons and Dragons Battle by Erasmas Dungeons and Dragons Battle by Erasmas
While this is not art, I wanted to show how HUGE this battle was. If any of you are familiar with 3rd edition, you can see it's a large battle... but keep in mind that each of those counters represents six gibberlings. I belief that we ended up killing 400 of them in all.

However, I suppose that this COULD sort of be labelled as art, as my wife and I made the counters. They are glass beads that you can get at any craft or hobby store. I then wrote numbers (1-00) on the bottoms of them in permanent marker (red and blue). Now, if you do it this way, you have to write the numbers backwards... which takes some getting used to. LOL We then cut out and glued pieces of white felt to the bottoms. They work great!

Dungeons & Dragons and "gibberlings" are copyrighted to Wizards of the Coast.

Oh man I wish I could get my old crew back together, we had such a great dungeon master. No video game can come close to the fun you can have in a good D&D game.

Looks like a lot of fun. I like to use that side of the map too.

The Battle Mat that I have only has the one side. The back of mine is just the weave of the vinyl... which is nice because it keeps it from sliding around on the table so much. They didn't start making the ones with the hex grid on the back until a little bit later.

every group i've played in that used any kind of battlemap sucked at roleplaying. if you want to play a wargame play a wargame. if you want to play a tactical skirmish try a video game. if you want to roleplay, play a roleplaying game.

Roleplaying has never been a problem with our group. I have even had a few moments at the table that made me tear up a little.

I'm sorry that you've had such a poor experience in the past and I hope that that changes. I, personally, like a mixture of those things and feel like I do a pretty decent job of incorporating all of them into the games that I run.

But, opinions are like assholes - everyone has one and they stink to anyone else but you.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you on this!
Unfortunately, I hardly ever check this site any more.

However, to answer your question... that isn't paper. It's a vinyl battle map from Chessex (I believe) and you draw on it with wet erase markers.

Holy crap man! U guys must have some hard hitters in your group. I'm an elf druid and the last time i got into a battle i ended up paralyzed about 400 feet in the air held by a plant i'd asked to hold me there above the t-rex we were fighting (yes, a t-rex) so i could shoot at it. And the freaking t-rex jumped up and bit me. Now what are the chances of that?!?!?! Anyway, i was working on a healing spell when my group just kinda left with about a hundred enemies of some sort while im just kinda like "uh... guys? Can ya'll tell me what's going on? hello??????" and then they left. So i was kinda like "what the beep guys? can't yall just wait?" and if u were wondering no they weren't being taken hostage or whatever they had talked the bad guys into working for us. or them at least. Not me. I was just hanging out suspended from a vine and paralyzed. Don't mind me! it was hilarious. I'd enjoy hearing some of you guy's d and d stories. :)

I think about 6 hours. But it was worth every minute of it. I believe several hours in, we actually re-instated an old 1st edition rule (in regards to creatures with less than 1 HD) where a character could attack a number of them equal to his level per round... in addition to the normal multiple attacks granted by leveling in 3rd edition. We literally got tired of hacking the things down.

Wow!! My group just started a campaign, with a brand-new DM, some people have never played before, and the others haven't played sine 3rd edition. As a result (and with the help of some bad rolling), some of the battles are taking a couple of hours with only 8 enemies, lol. Still getting use to the rules, and new characters :-/. Anyway, keep it up, friend!

Wow!! that is a huge battle! The glass beads though are a great idea for counters and such. I was thinking about making some little figures from clay but that would be so painstaking.

Lol i had a situation like that not long ago, only not as massive. The party basically just exited a mine, to be greeted by a group of about 10 Orcs. Behind them? 20 Hobgoblins. Behind THEM? Another 15 Bugbears. Luckily we just had to filter them into the tunnel and we killed 2 at a time till they all died. :D

hmm.. Do I smell a couple of circle of death spells coming? Or maybe some fireballs? either way that is funny to see that many monsters on the board.

the worst I had to do was at lvl 1 go against 4 great red wryms and a above lvl 20 blackguard. Storyline reasons didn't you know?

so lv 12 characters vs CR 2 creaters,
hmm piece of cake if they have at least one caster and 1 fighter.

i was wondering did you use heroes of battle for this encounter??

oh good lord, who rolled all those d20's? you poor poor dm.... jesus.... why would you subject yourself to that???

oh, and if anyone listens to the great metal band 3iob, I just learned that cam pipes is the only ne in the band who plays (damn, that's be an awesome tour bus passtime) but he plays a half-elf barbarian/rogue cross classed.... it may be the greatest idea for a character ever lol

And i thought my idea was crazy (since only 2 ppl in my house like it only one could control 4 ppl XD and we don't have proper minitaures so we had to use stuff from LOTR mins and Warhammer 40k) they were on this mountain and they had to get get to this bridge that only 2 ppl could go on at a time sooo 2 had to fend off basically an army of beasts and one type of beast could kill you in one hit :O soooooo they had to wait and wait and wait and if too many creatures got on the bridge the first character (lvl 3 mage) had to die because the warrior could cut the bridge down :O and there were flying ones so he could get trapped aswell 0.o :O and if 2 of the creatures got on the bridge at one time it would collapse :O and the mage got off the bridge just as the 2nd beast got on they lived happily ever after...lol still haven't played in awhile so they still level 3 (well 3 are level 2 but mage is level 3)

all the battle I make as a dm are mental too, I love it that way, te description is better, that way you can focus on what is in your mind, rather than the counters you see in front of you.... plus I make my own creatures... so yeah... i don't have any conters or miniatures to represent them

SAME! Our DM is totally free thinking. We never use figurines. If anything, the group asks me to draw out each character for them (just for the hell of it).
